Students need continual guidance in building digital literacy, and teachers need continually to reflect on how best to provide that guidance — and to refine their own skills. Just as basic literacy — reading and writing — must be a part of teaching and learning in every content area, so must digital literacy. This module is the first in a series offering a sound and thorough grounding in digital literacy as it pertains to the classroom — or of digital literacies, as the title of the module says, for there are many ways of thinking about digital literacy. This module covers strategies for online research, digital reading, and dealing with copyright and plagiarism.
This module replaces and updates the 2012 module Digital Literacies in the K–12 Classroom. Educators who have already received credit for that module (either self-paced or instructor-led version) should not take this module for credit; however, they are encouraged to skim through for updates, additional material, and reference.
Participants will create the following in completing this module, and central office staff may, at their discretion, request these work products before granting CEUs.
