You’ve already reflected on how what you’ve learned in this section can translate to your classroom, and section 3 of this module, Reading in a Digital Environment, will consider that issue in more depth, but let’s take a look at a few resources on effective searching that are designed specifically for K-12 students.
Common Sense Media offers a free K-12 curriculum on digital literacy and digital citizenship that covers a broad range of topics:
Read the lesson plans for your grade level in Research and Information Literacy, Unit 1: Searching.
Now, in your journal, reflect: How could I integrate the concepts these lessons teach, and the concepts I’ve learned in this section of the module, into my own classroom? How could I model search strategies or fit them into existing lessons, activities, and assignments? What particular strengths and challenges do my students bring?
Google also offers a series of lessons for educators on searching the web that you could review for use in your classroom (or to polish your own search skills).
