Principals and assistant principals will ensure that the school is a professional learning community that supports the performance of all key workers, including teachers and students. Principals and assistant principals will ensure that organizational structures are in place, including the use of time and space, acquisition and allocation of resources, and development and retention of high performing staff. The principal and assistant principal must engage and empower accomplished teachers in a distributive manner, including support of teachers in all of the routine operating procedures of the school. Effective educational leaders make structural changes that establish positive conditions for teaching and learning by involving staff to participate in the decision making process.

  1. Professional Development/Learning Communities: The principal/assistant principal ensures that the school is a professional learning community.
  2. Recruiting, Hiring, Placing and Mentoring of Staff: The principal/assistant principal establishes processes and systems in order to ensure a high-quality, high-performing staff.
  3. Teacher and Staff Evaluation: The principal/assistant principal evaluates teachers and other staff in a fair and equitable manner with the focus on improving performance and, thus, student achievement.
