Objectives based on Essential Standards 3rd Grade Social Studies Culture and North Carolina Essential Standard 3–5 Science.

  1. Let’s practice revising two objectives together. Read each objective and think about how you might revise it. Then click “Show Revision” to view a revised version with an explanation of the revisions. The objectives will display one at a time; when you finish with one, you’ll be able to go on to the next one.

  2. Learn about languages, foods and traditions of various groups.

    Here’s one possible revision:

The student will compare languages, foods and traditions of various groups living in local and regional communities.

    • Adding “the student will” makes clear the subject(s).
    • Changing “learn about” to “compare” provides a verb (v) at the understand level. It also makes the objective less vague.
    • Adding “living in local and regional communities” clarifies further the object (o).
    • This objective fits into B2 in the Taxonomy Table (Conceptual and Understanding).
  3. Discuss conventional and sustainable agriculture and aquaculture practices.

    Here’s one possible revision:

The learner will critique conventional and sustainable agriculture and aquaculture practices in terms of their environmental impacts.

    • Adding “the learner will” makes clear the subject (s).
    • Changing “discuss” to “critique” provides a verb (v) at the evaluate level. It also makes the objective less vague.
    • Adding “in terms of their environmental impacts” clarifies further the object (o) and provides context to critique.
    • This objective fits into D5 in the Taxonomy Table (Metacognitive Knowledge and Evaluate).
  4. Now that you’ve had a chance to practice some scenarios, try some on your own! Revise the following objectives using RBT. Be sure to consider the SVO. Also, indicate where it fits into the Taxonomy Table (Knowledge Dimension and Cognitive Process Domain). (What you type here won't be saved, so if you want to keep a copy of your work, do so in your journal.)

  5. Think about the physical properties of pure substances that are independent of the amount of matter present including density, melting point, boiling point and solubility to properties that are dependent on the amount of matter present to include volume, mass and weight. (Grade 6 — Physical Science)

    Here’s one possible revision:

The student will compare the physical properties of pure substances that are independent of the amount of matter present including density, melting point, boiling point and solubility to properties that are dependent on the amount of matter present to include volume, mass and weight. (B2 — Conceptual Knowledge and Compare)

  6. Have an awareness of how nutrition and fitness affect cardiovascular health. (Grades 3–5 Health Education — Nutrition and Physical Activity)

    Here’s one possible revision:

The learner will explain how nutrition and fitness affect cardiovascular health. (A2 — Factual Knowledge and Understand)
